  Master of Arts in Educational Leadership

  Leads to North Carolina licensure as a K-12 principal

 

  Overview:

 

  The MAEd in Educational Leadership is designed for those who value and are committed

  to educating all students to become successful adults. This interactive program is

  taught by instructors who are active in the education field at the highest level.

 

  Wingate's program is current and relevant, offering 37 semester hours at the 500-600

  level. Students who successfully complete this program will gain hands-on learning

  through field experiences and internships totaling 400 hours. Candidates will also develop

  a leadership portfolio of work and will take the School Leaders Assessment by Praxis

  exam.

 

  Program features:

  • research-based decision-making regarding curriculum, instructional strategies, technology assessment, professional development

  • organizational practices

  • skills in supervision, recruitment, staff appraisal, financial and budgetary planning

  • emerging issues and trends affecting instructional programs

  • internship opportunities

   Admission requirements:

  • bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • graduate school application form (available by calling 704-321-1470)

  • undergraduate major in education or class A licensure (or equivalent) to teach in public schools

  • at least three years of successful teaching experience

  • 3.00 (B) GPA or higher during the last two years of graduate work or a 3.00 GPA or higher in the education major

  • satisfactory scores on the MAT or the GRE

  • two recommendations from school administrative or supervisory personnel

  • essay or statement of intent for the MAEd program

  • two official transcripts of all previous academic work beyond high school

  • acceptance by admission committee
